LANDMARK WEEKEND IN WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE AS STARS RETURN AND RECORDS FALL

The Women’s Super League delivered a series of compelling narratives this weekend, headlined by a historic individual achievement and the long-awaited comeback of a key international figure.

Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw cemented her legendary status at the club by reaching a monumental personal milestone. In a dominant 6-1 victory over Aston Villa, the striker not only scored her 100th goal for City—becoming the first woman to do so in the club’s professional era—but proceeded to complete a four-goal haul. Shaw credited her teammates for her success, highlighting the collective effort behind her remarkable scoring record.

In another significant moment, Arsenal and England captain Leah Williamson made her return to the pitch after a lengthy absence due to injury. Introduced as a late substitute in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Everton, her appearance marked her first competitive action in over four months, drawing a passionate response from the travelling support. Her managed reintegration continues to be a priority for the club.

The weekend also featured a stunning comeback. Tottenham Hotspur appeared poised for a landmark victory, holding a commanding 3-0 lead against Manchester United. However, a late surge from the hosts, including two goals from Fridolina Rolfö, snatched a dramatic 3-3 draw, leaving Spurs to rue missed opportunity despite an otherwise impressive performance.

Elsewhere, Chelsea responded emphatically to a recent setback, securing a 3-0 win over Brighton. The return of key midfielder Erin Cuthbert provided stability, while a goal from Alyssa Thompson, assisted by an increasingly influential Sam Kerr, offered further encouragement.

At the other end of the table, Liverpool displayed significant resilience. Playing with ten players for the majority of the match after an early red card, they fought back twice to earn a 2-2 draw with West Ham, showcasing the determination required for their upcoming survival battle.

Finally, Leicester City continued to rely on the sharp form of Shannon O’Brien. Her winner in a 1-0 victory over London City Lionesses was her third goal in five games, proving decisive for a team that consistently excels with a compact and counter-attacking approach.
