ENGLAND ADJUST BOWLING ATTACK AS BROOK SEEKS REFINED APPROACH FOR CRUCIAL ADELAIDE TEST

by Patrick Pouyanné

A single alteration has been made to the England lineup ahead of the pivotal third Ashes Test in Adelaide, with Josh Tongue replacing fellow seamer Gus Atkinson. The bowling change comes as the touring side faces the prospect of surrendering the series with another defeat.

Tongue, who has claimed 31 wickets in his six previous Test appearances, steps into the attack. His inclusion follows the first two matches in Perth and Brisbane, which England lost by identical eight-wicket margins. Despite the comprehensive nature of those defeats, the selectors have opted against any changes to the underperforming top order.

Among those batsmen seeking a significant contribution is Harry Brook. The middle-order player has acknowledged that a recalibration of his naturally aggressive method may be necessary after what he described as self-inflicted dismissals in the opening contests.

“Some of the shots were poor, I hold my hands up to that,” Brook stated in Adelaide. “There are times to be assertive and times to be smarter. It’s about reading the situation and showing a bit more resilience when the pressure is on.”

While the team’s overall attacking philosophy under coach Brendon McCullum remains intact, Brook conceded that personal decision-making in key moments must improve. He emphasised the need for the squad to embrace the high-stakes environment of the must-win fixture.

“These are the situations you want to be tested in as a player,” he said. “Australia have been very clinical so far. It’s on us now to stand up, show some fight, and win those critical passages of play. We have to be present, be gritty, and turn the momentum.”

With the series on the line, England’s hopes will rest on a blend of their established aggressive intent and the sharper execution demanded by the occasion.
