STEFANO GABBANA EXITS LEADERSHIP ROLE AT FASHION HOUSE HE CO-FOUNDED

Stefano Gabbana, one half of the iconic design duo behind the luxury label Dolce & Gabbana, has stepped down from his position as chairman of the company. The resignation, which took effect at the start of the year, marks a significant shift in the governance of the Italian fashion empire.

The company confirmed the move, describing it as a natural step in the evolution of its organizational structure. It was emphasized that Gabbana’s departure from the executive board does not affect his ongoing creative contributions to the brand. Alfonso Dolce, brother of co-founder Domenico Dolce and the firm’s chief executive, has assumed the chairman’s responsibilities.

This leadership change coincides with reported financial discussions. Gabbana, who holds a 40% stake in the business, is said to be evaluating options for his shareholding as the company engages in talks with its banking partners. The management reshuffle also includes the appointment of former Gucci executive Stefano Cantino to a senior role.

The fashion house, established in Milan in 1985, is navigating a challenging period for the luxury sector, compounded by global economic uncertainties. Reports earlier this year indicated the company had enlisted financial advisors ahead of negotiations with creditors, following a refinancing round in 2025 designed to fund a new growth strategy and maintain its independence.

Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, who were once romantic partners, built a globally recognized brand known for its opulent and theatrical interpretation of Italian style. Their designs, famously worn by celebrities like Madonna, expanded from women’s wear to a full lifestyle portfolio. Despite their professional success, the brand has faced several controversies over the years related to advertising campaigns and public statements, which have occasionally sparked international backlash and calls for boycotts.

The founders presented a united front at their latest women’s wear show in Milan, attended by numerous high-profile guests. In recent comments, they reiterated a commitment to their distinctive aesthetic rather than chasing transient trends. The future direction of the company, and the disposition of Gabbana’s substantial stake, are now focal points as it prepares for its next chapter.
