Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier will depart the club upon the expiration of his contract this summer, marking a significant moment in the team’s recent history.

The 35-year-old full-back, a pivotal figure since his arrival in early 2022, confirmed his impending exit in a statement released by the club. “It’s emotional and I’m really going to miss it,” Trippier said. “It’s been an amazing journey.”

Trippier’s signing was one of the first major moves following the club’s change of ownership and proved instrumental in the team’s resurgence. He made over 150 appearances, contributed to a Carabao Cup triumph, and helped secure qualification for European football on multiple occasions.

His departure signals the beginning of an expected period of change for the squad. Manager Eddie Howe, whose own future has been subject to speculation, acknowledged the defender’s influence. “While we’ll be saying goodbye to Kieran shortly, we also know we have a lot left to play for this season,” Howe stated. “I know a player of Kieran’s character will be giving absolutely everything to end his time here on a high.”

While no longer an automatic starter, Trippier has remained a respected leader within the dressing room. His exit raises questions about which other key players may follow as the club prepares for a busy transfer window aimed at refreshing the team ahead of the new campaign.
