COURT BLOCKS AWARD-WINNING DOCUMENTARY ON RUSSIAN STREAMING SERVICES

A regional court has ordered the removal of an internationally acclaimed documentary from several domestic online platforms. The ruling, issued Thursday, states the film promotes what it describes as terrorist ideology and fosters hostility toward state authorities.

The documentary, which recently received top honors at major international film ceremonies, features covertly recorded footage from a school. The material reportedly shows classroom instruction and extracurricular activities with a pronounced military focus, including handling firearms and discussions on geopolitical matters.

In its decision, the court also cited the film’s inclusion of a symbol deemed extremist under current legislation. The judicial body argued the work used images of minors without proper parental consent, a point previously raised by a state advisory council on human rights.

This legal action represents the first official attempt to limit the film’s availability through licensed services within the country. The documentary’s creator, a former school employee who has since left the nation, used his acceptance speech at a recent awards event to call for an end to armed conflict.

In recent years, educational initiatives have been implemented to foster patriotic sentiment and support for state policy among students. The court’s ruling aligns with broader efforts to control narratives surrounding ongoing military engagements and national governance.
