A British skier has died in an avalanche in the French Alps, marking the third such fatality involving a UK national in recent days. The incident occurred near the resort of La Grave on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the individual was part of a group of five skiers when the avalanche was triggered. Emergency mountain rescue teams responded to the scene. A Polish national was also killed in the same event.
This tragedy follows a separate avalanche last Friday in the Val d’Isère area, which claimed the lives of two British men and a third individual.
French authorities have opened investigations into both incidents. The national weather service, Météo-France, had issued an avalanche warning for the northern Alps and the Hautes-Alpes region, which includes La Grave, prior to the event. Forecasters warned that sunny conditions expected on Wednesday could increase the danger by causing surface snow to melt and destabilize slopes.
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office confirmed they are providing support to the family of the deceased and are in contact with French officials.
